Brightkins Interactive Enrichment toys for Pets – Product Review

Brightkins Pets is all about interactive enrichment toys for pets and the children’s toy range, Learning Resources, is all about fun interactive learning. I love nothing more than interactive learning toys for both Kiki and Zamba as well as Gia. So when Brightkins asked us to collaborate and test out a few of their interactive enrichment toys we jumped for joy!

At Brightkins they believe that pets are part of the family, and well if you follow us on Instagram you will know that this statement resonates with us whole heartedly! Brightkins has the widest range of interactive enrichment toys I have ever come across. One of my favourite things about the pet interactive toys is that majority of them gets the entire family involved in the fun, which of course Gia loved too.

So here is what we received from Brightkins…

The Brightkins small Ice Cream treat dispenser for our little Kiki. Gia filled it up with Kiki’s favourite treats and enjoyed watching Kiki figure out how to flip it over in order to get the treats out. Because it is not a regular ball shape, it was a little more difficult for Kiki to figure out and required more patience from her.

The Brightkins Tough & Tumble treat dispenser for our big boy Zamba. It is tough enough for Zamba’s jaws but he figured out pretty quickly that rolling it and not biting it gets him more treats. Because it is a puffer fish shape it also rolls around irregularly which keeps things interesting. Both these treat dispensers could also be filled with kibble if your pup is a fast eater!

Next we got the Brightkins Cupcake Party treat puzzle, and oh what fun this one is! You can create three different levels of difficulty and watch which one your pup masters the best. The base of the cupcakes doubles up as a slow feeder too. Kiki was a keen learner with this one, because she has a short snout she soon worked out that using her paws got her the reward, whereas Zamba used his longer nose and strength to get to the treats.

Next up is the super fun Brightkins Pupstrami Surprise treat puzzle. Not only is this one fun to look at with it being a giant pastrami interactive dog toy, but it has so many compartments to hide treats in. Kiki and Zamba had to master the art of only spinning one layer at a time! The hardest for them both was spinning the top ‘roll’ to get to the treats hidden in the ‘tomato’ layer. It was really fun to watch them work this one out, not to mention they kept at it for ages and ages. It was hard for Gia to watch them struggle to work out the different layers on this one but I explained to her that they need to work it out for themselves just like she works out her toys and things!

Last in the pet interactive toy range we received is the Brightkins Magic Trick training set. I will say that Gia absolutely loved this one! Not only did it feel like she was performing magic on Kiki and Zamba 😉 but both Kiki and Zamba were enthralled with what she was doing too! This set is the ideal way to have fun while training your pups. It teaches your pups to listen to cues and while some of the tricks require a bit more practice than others, this set is definitely something we will continue to use so Kiki, Zamba and Gia can master more tricks together!

Next in our set of goodies is something for Gia. The children’s learning toys are from Learning Resources and we received Max the Moose which promotes the use of fine motor skills. While Gia is a little advanced for this one she still loved creating colourful patterns on the horns of the Moose and what intrigued her the most was trying to fit all the pieces inside compartment of the moose!

Then possibly one of my most favourite items for Gia right now- we received the Big Feelings Pineapple. Gia is turning five in May so feelings are a big thing for her right now… really big!! And this pineapple has been absolutely incredible as a way for her to express her feelings to us when she is struggling to put them into words. When Gia is feeling emotional and struggling to express exactly what she is feeling, she goes and fetches her pineapple. She sits and finds the face that expresses her feelings in that moment the most and she creates that face on her pineapple and hands it to us. We, mom and dad, are then able to chat about her feelings in a calm and more understanding way and resolve whatever it is that has been on her mind. I highly recommend this one!

LickiMat – An Innovative Pet Product To Relieve Boredom And Stress

If your dog or cat suffers from boredom, anxiety or stress then LickiMats are just the thing they need to feel calmer during these moments.

If you follow us on Instagram then you’ll know exactly why I jumped at the chance to collaborate with LickiMat South Africa- enter my hooligans Kiki and Zamba, both very much still in their puppy phases of life! I saw LickiMat as a chance to mentally stimulate Kiki and Zamba in a different way and wow I am hugely surprised.

LickiMats are made of the best quality materials making the range microwave and freezer proof and some of the range is dishwasher proof too. They come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes depending on your dog and what he enjoys. Kiki being a Boston Terrier with a flat nose, seemed to prefer the flatter and more open LickiMat options where as Zamba being a Rottweiler pretty much enjoyed any of the shapes as his nose can reach much harder spots, especially in the Yoggie Pot.

We received a gorgeous box of LickiMat goodies which included the Slodog Slow Feeder Plate, this one I was particularly impressed by because it offers all the benefits of a slow feed bowl but with none of the frustration that often comes with slow feed bowls. We also received the LickiMat Soother Tuff Pro which is chew resistant however these are certainly not chew toys so please bare that in mind. We got a cute Yoggie Pot too, which is great for Zamba to enjoy a stuffed to the brim pot of all his favourite treats and things!

Ollie and Roo our two cats were also lucky enough to be part of this and they got the cat LickiMat Fish which adds a little extra stimulation and fun to meal times for them.

The great thing about the entire LickiMat range is that you can get as creative as your pets pallet will allow 😉 Pile all their favourite raw and fresh food into one Yoggie Pot or simply spread a little plain yoghurt with peanut butter all over the LickiMat Soother. I would recommend having more than one LickiMat within the range because each one offers something different!

I love the LickiMat range because not only does it offer calmness in times of anxiety and stress for your dog or cat but it also teaches them to have patience around food and treats.

Fireworks season is coming up for us, so our LickiMats could not have come at a better time for Kiki, Zamba, Ollie and Roo! They will go a long way in making sure the four of them feel a little calmer during this stressful time.

Meraki Cafe

Gia loves baking at home. It gives her a sense of independence, something she can mostly do by herself. She gets to create something delicious that she can enjoy. So when Meraki wanted to collaborate with us we jumped at the opportunity!

Meraki offers a wide variety of pre-mix cakes and sweet treats, from scones and pancakes to red velvet cakes. Each pre-mix is carefully planned to make your home baking session simple yet delicious each and every time.

I love the Meraki pre-mixes because it makes my life a little easier when comes to baking with Gia. All the dry ingredients are measured out perfectly for me already, all Gia has to do is crack a few eggs which she absolutely loves doing, and add the wet ingredients, give it a good mix with my supervision of course. Whatever you’re making goes into the oven or the frying pan and before you know it you have your freshly baked, scone, cupcakes or pancakes. Yes it really is that easy with Meraki pre-mixes.

You can also dine at The Merake Cafe, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner or even a friendly catch up with a bestie you haven’t seen in a while. The Merake Cafe menu offers something for everyone be it something savoury or something sweet in the form of their delicious signature cakes.

BobSweep Pet Hair Slam Robotic Vacuum Cleaner and Mop

Shedding season is all year long with Zara! Between Zara, Ollie, Roo and myself I actually don’t know who sheds more hair- haha! But with the BobSweep Pet Hair Slam Robotic Vacuum Cleaner and Mop all that shedding is gone within minutes.

When BobSweep asked to work with us we jumped with joy and couldn’t wait to really put Bob the robo vacuum to the test. We’ve seen these robot vacuums all over social media and they look really funky but the question on everyones mind is … Do they actually work?

While we waited for Bob to arrive the excitement around him joining our family was real. Gia wasn’t quite sure what to expect but we kept her excitement about Bob at an all time high, so when he finally did arrive, oh we couldn’t contain ourselves!!

I can now answer everyones number one question… Does Bob really work? And my answer is a straight up YES! He works extremely well. Not only am I impressed by his mechanics but I am hugely impressed with how well he sweeps and mops the floors.

First things first, you need to plug Bob in and charge him up. He comes with his docking station that plugs into the wall. If you’re like us and have higher electricity voltage, you will need a special adapter plug. Once he is charged you turn him on and link him to the app you download. Once that is done it’s as easy as pushing the play button on the cleaning setting and off he goes!

Bob maps your house on his first clean, remembering where obstacles and objects are. His mapping can be seen on the app in real time! It is incredible to watch. We set him to sweep up first, collecting dog hairs and cat hairs because we have pets and along the way he collected and swept up some rice that Gia had dropped during dinner time and anything else he could find. Like I said, we really put Bob to the test!

Once the sweeping was done we changed his attachments to the water compartment, attached the mop cloth and set him off again. I was absolutely blown away with how the floors turned out! He takes his time and doesn’t rush making sure he does his job to the best of his ability. His battery life is also pretty great. He did our entire house sweeping and mopping and still had some battery life left. Once he is done he happily returns himself to his docking station. You can also stop his cleaning session at anytime and return him to his docking station.

Bob has no issues manoeuvring around pets- haha. Zara was most unimpressed by Bob and his antics and refused to move out his cleaning path. Luckily Bob doesn’t worry about things like this and happily worked his way around Zara!

You can also schedule Bob, meaning you can tell him when the best time is for him to clean your floors. Once he has mapped your house, you can decide which rooms you want him to clean and when. While he was mapping our house we closed a few doors to rooms we didn’t want him going in, you also need to be careful around stairs, you don’t want Bob injuring himself! We have set Bob up for our main areas of living but you can easily set him up for every room and bathroom if you wish.

Overall, I am hugely impressed with the BobSweep Pet Hair Slam Robotic Vacuum Cleaner and Mop!! If you are looking for a little help with keeping up with pet hair shedding then Bob is most definitely the thing you need.

ONETIGRIS Adventure Dog Gear Review

Zara loves an adventure and we know our Instagram pals love them too, so when OneTigris asked us to collaborate we couldn’t wait to put their adventure dog gear to the test.

We received their brand new bright orange OneTigris Aire Mesh Dog Harness, with their matching collar and leash. Besides the striking colour, the first thing that struck me was the toughness of each item.

The Aire Mesh harness has breathable mesh on the sides and the top so your pup doesn’t over heat while wearing it out on an adventure. It has two grip holders for those moments you either need to grab onto your pup or help them up or down a cliff while hiking. It also has support to protect the undercarriage. My favourite feature has to be the velcro sides where you can attach a few of their accessories. We received the pack set which is fantastic for keeping your car keys safe, your cell phone and of course some treats for along the way. Gia thought these pouches were a great way to store the goodies she wanted to take along on our adventure and Zara was happy to be the one to carry the special goods!

We also received the collar and leash set to match the harness. The collar is strong with a metal clasp and is easily adjustable. It also has a velcro section which you can attach any of the OneTigris accessories to. The leash is strong too and also has a metal clasp attachment. I particularly love the short leash feature. Often I find myself winding the full leash around my hands and wrists which in a sticky situation with an extremely strong pup could be a recipe for disaster, so I love how you can grab the short leash and still have control, whether it’s attached to the collar or the harness- your preference.

All of these OneTigris adventure items are waterproof so it wouldn’t be an issue if your pup decided to cool off fully clothed while out on an adventure, just remember to take the packs off with your car keys and cell phone inside 😉 The collar, leash and harness are all easy to clean too. I popped everything inside a pillow cover and put them in the washing machine on a normal full cycle, they came out smelling fresh and looking extra clean ready for the next adventure.

ROAREX 100% Vegan Kids Products – Product Review

100% Natural and 1000% adorable these super cute ROAREX toothbrushes and feeding sets are anything but ordinary.

Since becoming a mom to Gia I have tried choosing baby and toddler products that are healthier for Gia and healthier for our Earth. So when ROAREX contacted us I was intrigued and ready to put their products to the test.

It’s no secret that Gia and Zara love sharing things so why would the ROAREX feeding set be anything different. Gia was very excited when she saw her spoon and fork set was dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are not something I choose for Gia so this got her attention already… enter yogurt and Zara… and the two girls enjoyed their little feeding frenzy.

I loved how easy and natural it was for Gia to grip the silicone dinosaur base of both the spoon and the fork. As any parent will tell you, grip is important and teaches our toddlers a lot more than just how to hold certain items. Gia easily swapped from the spoon to the fork and she enjoyed eating from both, and so did Zara 😉

Then came the toothbrushes. Gia is obsessed with any and every animal so the elephant and chameleon toothbrushes were an instant visual hit. Again the silicone animal base of each toothbrush offers a really good grip so Gia could brush her teeth properly. The soft bristles are BPA free and are made to protect the gums. A win win in my opinion.

Both the ROAREX feeding sets and the toothbrushes are made from 100% Vegan non-toxic materials which means when the items are no longer in good condition they decompose easily, unlike your regular plastic items of the same nature.

The design of each animal on both the feeding set and the toothbrushes is really cute. They appeal to children with their bright colours and animated like characters. I am really impressed with the quality of each ROAREX item as often plant based materials are not the strongest, but I am happy to say these have surpassed my expectations.

Gia couldn’t decide which one was her favourite which shows just how much she has loved using all of the ROAREX items. And I am pretty sure I will walk into the bathroom and find Gia brushing Zara’s teeth with one of the toothbrushes 😉

PetieTec Heated Therapy Braces Product Review

Zara has had TPLO surgery on both her back knee’s. It’s been a few years now however I am constantly looking out for new products or supplements that will help ease Zara’s discomfort she experiences from time to time. So when PetieTec asked us if we would like to review their new heated therapy braces we jumped at the opportunity.

PetieTec heated therapy braces use targeted heat therapy to reduce stiffness, increase blood flow and relieve pain in the area the braces cover. This is exactly what Zara needs to help maintain her comfort and keep aches and pains away.

PetieTec gifted us the full set which includes the hip heated therapy brace, two elbow or knee heated therapy braces plus the spine heated therapy brace. Each brace targets the specific area to help increase blood flow to the area and ease pain and discomfort.

With our colder days starting to make an appearance, Zara starts to show a little extra discomfort too so I am excited to see how these PetieTec heated therapy braces help Zara cope this winter season… yes that means I will do another full review after our winter season 🙂

But for now what I can tell you is that I am extremely impressed with the PetieTec heated braces. I have been using them for a week and I have tried them all on Zara. Surprisingly she is happy to lay down and enjoy the heat therapy sessions. When all the straps are attached correctly it is possible for your dog to move around and train while the heat therapy is going on but to be honest I want Zara’s heat therapy sessions to be calm and enjoyable for her. I want it to be something we can do quietly together with no other interruptions.

I can tell we will use the knee and elbow ones daily followed by the hip brace every second day as Zara does have slight hip dysplasia and I will probably use the back/spine brace about twice a week. I will of course see how it goes and if I have to increase the use of them I will.

Each PetieTec heated brace is powered by a power bank. I opted to use my own (PetieTec can supply you with one if you want). The fabulous thing is that any power bank and micro USB cable fit perfectly so if you have more than one power bank you can do more than one brace at the same time. So far I like to either do both elbows or both knee’s at the same time or one knee and the hip brace. Zara is happy to sit and relax during her sessions and I often give her a LickMat or filled Kong to take her mind off the actual heating. Zara has never shown any discomfort or irritation towards the braces while they are being used.

You can choose between three different heat settings which I think is great! Depending on how cold it is will determine which heat setting I go for. At the moment it hasn’t been too cold so I have only used the ‘coolest’ of the three settings. As the days and nights get colder I will adjust to the hotter options. It’s probably not a bad idea to start with the coolest setting and work your way up to the hottest.

Overall the PetieTec heated therapy braces are very easy to use once you master all the straps and where they go – haha! I am very impressed with the quality of each brace and how it has been made oh and did I mention you can hand wash them gently- impressive right! They do not take up much space at all so if you travel with your pets they are very easy to pack and take with you wherever you go.

If your pup suffers from any kind of discomfort relating to joint stiffness, sore muscles, hip dysplasia or arthritis then I strongly recommend these PetieTec heated therapy braces! You will not be disappointed.

Hansgrohe DogShower

The Hansgrohe DogShower is the latest dog grooming product to hit the South African market and we couldn’t be more excited to share our experience with you.

When Hansgrohe reached out to us I’ll be honest, I had not heard of the DogShower but since doing my own research and connecting with the brand I am seeing the DogShower more and more internationally on social media. But fear not my fellow South Africans because the DogShower is coming to YOU!

The Hansgrohe DogShower is pretty awesome and can be used for both indoor and outdoor grooming. As you know Zara loves nothing more than to be hosed down and groomed and the DogShower makes the experience a little more luxurious for her. It has three different wash settings, one for the bulk of her fur, which is the full flow of the shower head. One for the more sensitive parts like her legs, under-carriage, bum and tail areas, which is only the top section of the shower head. And the last setting is for her paws, which is a single jet of water flow. It also has a button to increase the pressure if you want which I actually quite liked especially for around Zara’s leg area where the shampoo usually sits.

The long silicone nozzles offer a pleasant massage experience for your pup which Zara loved. I was able to massage from the top of her neck right to the tip of her tail without the nuzzles getting stuck in her fur all whilst making sure no shampoo foam is left behind.

The single flow paw cleaner is also great because I often forget about Zara’s paws when bathing her however the paw cleaning setting on the DogShower makes sure any bits and pieces that are wedged in between her toes gets cleaned away especially when you use the booster pressure button.

We connected our Hansgrohe DogShower to our standard outdoor garden hosepipe and it works perfectly. Because it is currently so hot where we live, giving Zara an outdoor shower suits her perfectly. I mean who doesn’t love outdoor showers anyway 😉 At first Zara thought it was a new sprinkler water toy to play with so she tried jumping up and playing with the water sprays but she soon realised what a relaxing experience it is to be bathed with the DogShower.

Don’t worry, if you don’t enjoy bathing your pup outside the Hansgrohe DogShower works indoors too. All you need is a shower hose connected to your bath or shower which you screw the DogShower head to and use it in the bath or shower. Zara loves an indoor bath too so we keep these to the winter time so we can make the water a little warmer for her.

Basically everyone can use the Hansgrohe DogShower and we highly recommend this product. No more random buckets or jugs needed to bath your pets. Simply screw it to your bath hose or outdoor hosepipe and you’re good to go!

Snoozies Product Review

Snoozies is the ultimate in luxury sacks so when they asked us if they could send us a customised scatter cushion from their new range of course we were delighted.

Their awesome Sloth Sacks are what they are known for, gradually over the years they have grown their range and now have luxury sacks for dogs or cats and human babies too!

The latest product launched is their personalised scatter cushions. Of course Zara wanted a Snoozies scatter cushion with her face on it, she’s the famous one after all 😉 You don’t have to have a photo printed, you can choose your favourite leaf or floral design. Basically anything you want Snoozies will happily make it up for you.

We received our scatter cushion faster than I thought we would-which proves the excellent service they pride themselves on! Zara couldn’t wait to rip open the packet and see the beauty that is her own face on a scatter cushion.

Wow, what we received surpassed my expectations by a long way. Our scatter cushion from Snoozies is nothing short of beautiful. I am certainly not an expert when it comes to fabrics, but I do know the fabric used to make our scatter cushion is excellent quality. I am impressed with the zip used too, it is strong and sturdy and will definitely withhold a toddler constantly opening and closing it. While these details may not seem important to some, to me they are important because I want a scatter cushion like this to last for a long time. And this one will! It’s soft and almost velvety to touch and the print quality is excellent. It does help sending a proper high res image but the Snoozies team will let you know if your image submitted is ok to use.

Zara thinks she can use her scatter cushion as a head rest at night while she sleeps, I of course have other plans! This scatter cushion needs to be shown off and kept in a special place. I’m thinking in our bedroom on what used to be Gia’s feeding chair or perhaps the couch in the lounge. Either way this scatter cushion is very special to us.

Petqwerks Dog Toys

Petqwerks love to spoil Zara and I am so grateful to them for always sending a surprise box of goodies just when we need them! Petqwerks never disappoint so when our box of goodies arrived you can imagine the excitement level.

Petqwerks is a brand of dog toys that really stands out for me! Their chews are actually durable for big doggos like Zara and their interactive toys are fun and seriously entertaining, even for me.

We have been very fortunate to test out almost everything in their range and Zara just loves it all.

In our surprise box of goodies, we received their totally adorable hedgehog which Gia claimed as hers straight away. Luckily Zara has no issues sharing her toys and happily lets Mr Hedgehog sleep with Gia at night. It does tickle me that a super cute dog toy is now Gia’s cuddle buddy 😉 Oh and did I mention it giggles too. We also received a new Babble Ball which is one of my favourites, it’s hard not to have fun with it.

Zara got two new Barkbones- the Dinosaur and the Crocodile one plus a pigs ear chew too. Zara gnaws on these chews for hours and hours and hours. I love how durable they are for strong chewers like Zara. There was also a cute sock monkey which Zara loves the squeaker of and so does Gia. My all time favourite product of Petqwerks is the Invincibubbles so you can imagine my excitement when I saw we received a bottle.

There was also the x-tyre toy with the bell in the middle which Ollie seems to have taken a liking to the sound. And to top it off Zara got a brand new singing chicken. If I had to choose a toy that tops Zara’s list of favourite Petqwerks toys it would probably be this signing chicken! I have no idea why, but it sets Zara off into song every time it goes off, no matter what she’s doing, if she hears it singing she sings along… Imagine the chaos.

So basically there was something for everyone to enjoy in our surprise box of Petqwerks goodies. And I get to enjoy the sights of all my babies enjoying these wonderful toys. Thank you Petqwerks for making my family feel so special. We really do love you!
