Hansgrohe DogShower

The Hansgrohe DogShower is the latest dog grooming product to hit the South African market and we couldn’t be more excited to share our experience with you.

When Hansgrohe reached out to us I’ll be honest, I had not heard of the DogShower but since doing my own research and connecting with the brand I am seeing the DogShower more and more internationally on social media. But fear not my fellow South Africans because the DogShower is coming to YOU!

The Hansgrohe DogShower is pretty awesome and can be used for both indoor and outdoor grooming. As you know Zara loves nothing more than to be hosed down and groomed and the DogShower makes the experience a little more luxurious for her. It has three different wash settings, one for the bulk of her fur, which is the full flow of the shower head. One for the more sensitive parts like her legs, under-carriage, bum and tail areas, which is only the top section of the shower head. And the last setting is for her paws, which is a single jet of water flow. It also has a button to increase the pressure if you want which I actually quite liked especially for around Zara’s leg area where the shampoo usually sits.

The long silicone nozzles offer a pleasant massage experience for your pup which Zara loved. I was able to massage from the top of her neck right to the tip of her tail without the nuzzles getting stuck in her fur all whilst making sure no shampoo foam is left behind.

The single flow paw cleaner is also great because I often forget about Zara’s paws when bathing her however the paw cleaning setting on the DogShower makes sure any bits and pieces that are wedged in between her toes gets cleaned away especially when you use the booster pressure button.

We connected our Hansgrohe DogShower to our standard outdoor garden hosepipe and it works perfectly. Because it is currently so hot where we live, giving Zara an outdoor shower suits her perfectly. I mean who doesn’t love outdoor showers anyway 😉 At first Zara thought it was a new sprinkler water toy to play with so she tried jumping up and playing with the water sprays but she soon realised what a relaxing experience it is to be bathed with the DogShower.

Don’t worry, if you don’t enjoy bathing your pup outside the Hansgrohe DogShower works indoors too. All you need is a shower hose connected to your bath or shower which you screw the DogShower head to and use it in the bath or shower. Zara loves an indoor bath too so we keep these to the winter time so we can make the water a little warmer for her.

Basically everyone can use the Hansgrohe DogShower and we highly recommend this product. No more random buckets or jugs needed to bath your pets. Simply screw it to your bath hose or outdoor hosepipe and you’re good to go!

Snoozies Product Review

Snoozies is the ultimate in luxury sacks so when they asked us if they could send us a customised scatter cushion from their new range of course we were delighted.

Their awesome Sloth Sacks are what they are known for, gradually over the years they have grown their range and now have luxury sacks for dogs or cats and human babies too!

The latest product launched is their personalised scatter cushions. Of course Zara wanted a Snoozies scatter cushion with her face on it, she’s the famous one after all 😉 You don’t have to have a photo printed, you can choose your favourite leaf or floral design. Basically anything you want Snoozies will happily make it up for you.

We received our scatter cushion faster than I thought we would-which proves the excellent service they pride themselves on! Zara couldn’t wait to rip open the packet and see the beauty that is her own face on a scatter cushion.

Wow, what we received surpassed my expectations by a long way. Our scatter cushion from Snoozies is nothing short of beautiful. I am certainly not an expert when it comes to fabrics, but I do know the fabric used to make our scatter cushion is excellent quality. I am impressed with the zip used too, it is strong and sturdy and will definitely withhold a toddler constantly opening and closing it. While these details may not seem important to some, to me they are important because I want a scatter cushion like this to last for a long time. And this one will! It’s soft and almost velvety to touch and the print quality is excellent. It does help sending a proper high res image but the Snoozies team will let you know if your image submitted is ok to use.

Zara thinks she can use her scatter cushion as a head rest at night while she sleeps, I of course have other plans! This scatter cushion needs to be shown off and kept in a special place. I’m thinking in our bedroom on what used to be Gia’s feeding chair or perhaps the couch in the lounge. Either way this scatter cushion is very special to us.

Activated Charcoal Dog Treats – An Update

Activated Charcoal still seems to be everywhere I look, and that is not a bad thing at all. It made me think back to the last time I wrote about Activated Charcoal and whether or not it actually worked…

When I first wrote about activated charcoal and created the recipe for it, I had only done a little research about the benefits but I wanted to test it out for myself.

Here’s the thing, my Activated Charcoal treat recipe does work! In fact it worked wonders for Zara’s digestive system. She had noticeably less gas and I feel she digested her food better.

Her teeth have stayed clean since her doggy dental she had back in September last year and her breath had a neutral smell.

During the holiday season, Zara didn’t have her special activated charcoal treats and as we all do, she indulged a little too much in all the good things in life. Her gas levels were at an all time high, she wasn’t digesting her food very well which resulted in lots of farting, burping and some vomiting too. And her breath just smelt different.

It then dawned on me what the difference was a few months ago so I got to work in the kitchen and baked her a huge batch of activated charcoal dog treats again! Recipe below:

Activated charcoal dog biscuits

I doubled this recipe so that I have enough to last a while. I pop the baked treats into ZipLock bags and put them in the freezer. I take 3 out every night for Zara, they defrost within 30mins 😉

Ingredients

2 cups flour of your choice (rice, oat, wholewheat etc)

1 egg

1/2 cup milk of your choice (cows or coconut)

2 tbs coconut oil

1 banana mashed

1/4 cup activated charcoal

Directions

Preheat your oven to 200 degrees. Mix all your ingredients together in a bowl until a nice dough forms. If it is too sticky then add some extra flour. Once you have your dough, roll it out onto a floured surface and using cookie cutters of your choice cut out your doggy treats. Place them onto greased baking trays and bake for 20 minutes or until cooked. Remove from the oven and allow to cool before letting your pooch enjoy.

Petsville Product Review

When Petsville asked us to be official brand ambassadors we of course said YES! They’re a brand new up and coming stylish brand with their heart in the right place, so who wouldn’t want to be a proud ambassador for them.

Petsville is a unique brand with an eye for style. All their products are proudly South African and handmade to perfection. Petsville is a family brand, which of course really captured me.

We received the high Skye Bowl size large, and wow. Just wow. It is honestly made beautifully!

I have seen quite a few fellow big doggo’s with raised bowls and wondered if it really made a difference… I now know the importance of having a high bowl for a big pup like Zara!

Zara has been using her Skye Bowl for a few weeks now for both eating her meals and drinking water from. Zara is a fast eater and usually uses a slow feed bowl at meal times, however this raised bowl seems to work just as well. She seems to take in less air while eating and drinking. I have no clue about the science behind this or if there is any but I do feel it has eased the tension in her front joints and neck because she no longer has to get so low to tuck in.

It seems Gia loves Zara’s new high raised bowl too, especially when it’s filled with water. She’s obsessed with splashing her hands in it, throwing her water bottle in and even taking an aircon remote for a swim! Zara of course loves watching all these shenanigans because for once she isn’t in the centre of the chaos-haha. Both Zara and Gia are two water obsessed babies so the two of them can play like this for ages. I of course absolutely love watching the chaos and their bond grows stronger through play like this too.

Each one of Petville’s unique products fits perfectly into any home style and I have a feeling this won’t be the only product we have in our home 😉 They have a beautiful selection of dog and cat items. Each one designed and thought out with comfort and style in mind.

I did however notice that other proud ambassadors have products named after them, so I challenge Petsville to create something extra sassy named after ZARA!!

Overall Petsville is a brand you want in your home. Simple yet very pleasing on the eye. There was a gap in the market for products like these in South Africa and I am so happy it has now been filled.

Scruffs Luxury Dog Beds Product Review

Zara loves to nap, especially when her baby sister Gia naps. So it’s only fitting that Zara naps on a Scruffs Luxury Dog Bed.

They have a wide variety of shapes and sizes with luxury beds on offer for everyone and every home. Zara was lucky enough to receive the Scruffs luxury Windsor Dog Mattress all the way from the UK and she loves it! It’s soft and puffy and she makes herself very comfortable on it.

The Scruffs luxury Windsor Dog Mattress that Zara received is lightweight and easy to move around. If your pup is like Zara and has different spots around the house she likes to nap, then this luxury bed is perfect. Zara loves being tucked under my feet while I’m writing or crafting at my desk. Had I known she would want to be under my feet I would have made that space a little bit bigger, but Zara manages to squish herself under my feet and loves having puppy dreams while I get creative. I decided to put her new Scruffs luxury Windsor Dog Mattress under my desk so the space is a little comfier for her. The mattress is of course larger than the space but because its so lovely and soft I can squish it up a little. Zara definitely approves!

It’s also a great mattress to put in your car for your pup to have a comfy spot to sit or lie on while you travel. It’s soft and puffy so you can squish it into a small space if need be. It also has non slip material underneath so it won’t slide around while you drive. This mattress will definitely accompany us on future adventures.

The Scruffs luxury Windsor Dog Mattress is made with 100% recycled green fibre filling which of course is better for the environment. It also comes in a variety of colours to suit your home decor and personal preferences as well as size options.

Overall I am very impressed with the Scruffs brand and the bed Zara received. It easily fits into our home in every room. It’s not a mission to pick up and move around. It easily fits into the washing machine and because it is lightweight the machine handles it easily which makes me happy because Zara’s bedding is washed every week to keep it clean, healthy and smelling pretty- fit for a princess!

Hello August. August is another exciting month the year for us because it is Zara’s birthday month! She will be turning 4 on the 28th. On one hand it feels like Zara has been with us forever but on the other hand I can’t believe she is turning 4!

It will be the second birthday Zara gets to celebrate with her baby sis Gia. Last year August Gia was only 3 months old so I think Zara’s birthday celebrations this year will be filled with a whole lot more fun… I can’t wait!

Raw Love Pets Product Review

Zara loves treats and I love treats that are made with love and are healthy for her, so when Raw Love Pets asked us to review their treat range, I was super excited to put them to the test.

Raw Love Pets have been making pets happy with raw meals and hand-made treats since 2009! Everything about Raw Love Pets is being sustainable, using organic and reusable products.

We received a huge selection of treats to try out-much to Zara’s delight! Because we live in Zambia, all our treats are baked not raw. There are raw options if you prefer and I’m pretty sure your pups will love it.

Zara’s baked selection of Raw Love Pets included Health treats, Bedtime treats, Training treats, Venison droeworse, Venison biltong, and Venison chews. Plus something extra called Diatomaceous Earth powder.

Zara’s favourite treats of the range is definitely the Bedtime treats. Zara lives for her three Bedtime treats. Oscar used to get two treats every night at bedtime which of course Zara got too when she joined our family. When Oscar passed away we decided to give Zara an extra treat at bedtime to remember her brother by. I would say these Bedtime treats pull on a heartstring of mine, making them my favourite too. I have been keeping them in our bedroom where Zara sleeps at night. She jumps into bed and won’t take her eyes off the box until she’s had her three, and yes she can count!!

Another favourite of the selection are the training treats. They’re small and Zara thinks they’re very tasty. They are grain free, and made with Organic venison liver, lentil flour, organic rolled oats, free range eggs with no added salt, preservatives or colourants. These are a great treat to have on hand, to use as a spoil or when you want to train your pup or get her to pose for photos 😉

I also love the Health treats because I am always looking for healthy treats for Zara. Let’s be honest, not all treats out there are healthy! I do try to limit the unhealthy treats, but knowing these Raw Love Pets treats are extra healthy puts my mind at rest, especially when Zara gets at least three every time.

This might be slightly random but another thing I love about the Raw Love Pets baked treats is they don’t leave a smell on your hands. So many dog treats leave your hands smelly even after washing them. The Venison droeworse and biltong is an exception here.

If you are looking for a natural way to treat ticks and fleas then this Diatomaceous Earth powder is for you! You can either rub it onto your pups fur or add it to her food. I tried rubbing it all over Zara and it was pretty much a disaster. There was powder everywhere-haha! It’s much easier adding it to her food each night. It can also be used around the home and your garden to get rid of unwanted bugs and slugs. We have a veggie garden which is 100% wild and natural so this powder is going to come in handy-sorry Zara but I think this one is going to be for me 😉

Overall we give Raw Love Pets a pawfect rating. Everything about their treat range is fantastic! If you are looking to raw feed your pets or for some healthy but yummy treats then Raw Love Pets should be your brand of choice. I will certainly stock up when Zara’s stash is finished. Gizzls CBD oil for Pets Product Review

Medicated CBD oil for pets, are you for it or not? I’ll tell you where I’m at…

When Gizzls contacted us, it was at a time that is most stressful for Zara… The silly season. December time for us is filled with chaos and fireworks. Yes fireworks! Christmas and New Year loses it’s appeal because Zara becomes hysterical to the point where she’s almost uncontrollable! I have tried various methods of calming remedies and each one so far has not worked so I thought let’s give CBD oil a try.

You could say that our bottle of Gizzls full spectrum CBD oil and medicated CBD treats came just in time! We started giving Zara her treats and oil drops the week before all the chaos was due to start!

Gizzls is a company that produces medicated CBD products for your pets. They pride themselves in using only the best sourced plants. Making sure their full spectrum CBD oil is free of any herbicides, pesticides, GMO products, preservatives or any other additive.

CBD oil has become an extremely popular way to help ease stress, anxiety, chronic conditions and help with pain management. I will be honest, I was on the fence about this way of medicating Zara, I’m not sure why. I just was! Fast forward a few weeks of continuous use and I’ll say that I am quite happy with the results…

During the silly season of fireworks I will say Gizzls CBD oil and treats helped to a certain extent. Unfortunately nothing will take away the intense sound a firework delivers to our pets, however it did ‘take the edge off’. She seemed to calm easier than previous years. She settled in-between the couch pillows and us and actually drifted off to sleep while the bangs were sporadic- something she has not done in previous years. During the crazy hours of non stop bangs she was a tad hysterical, panting and pacing around, clawing around our bed and the couch. But as I said she was a lot easier to settle and she didn’t listen out for when the next bang was coming even though we all knew it was on its way- A positive step in mind.

Another observation I’ve made is how confident Zara seems on her legs! After having two TPLO surgeries six months apart from one another, we relied on stronger medication to help with Zara’s pain and inflammation management. I can confirm Zara has not had an anti-inflammatory tablet in over a month!! She runs happier, tends to want to jump up on things and just seems confident while running around playing with her toys- Another positive step in my mind.

Gizzls also said that their CBD oil was suitable for the three Amigos. I held off giving it to them until I saw how Zara responded to it. Two weeks ago Peaches fell ill very suddenly. Anyone with a bunny will know that when your bunny is not feeling well you need to act immediately or they can lose their life! After a stressful night I made the decision to start giving them their drop of CBD oil. I simply put one drop each on their pellets and make sure each bunny gets their CBD covered pellet. It’s hard to say at this moment if it’s making a noticeable difference but if it can help keep the Vet away and provide overall health then I’m all for it!

I’m not a CBD expert, we simply tried and tested Gizzls full spectrum CBD oil and treats. If you would like to know more about the science behind CBD oil then head on over to Gizzls website, they explain it perfectly.

All in all I would highly recommend switching to Gizzls full spectrum CBD oil as a way to safely medicate your pet. The oil can be tricky to administer so I simply place Zara’s three drops on one of her Gizzls hand baked treats and she scoffs it in one go! She doesn’t mind the taste of the oil at all and the Amigos don’t seem bothered by it either.
